Cutting paper has become a form of meditation. The inability to “uncut” the piece forces a sense of confidence in my decision making and the evolution of the work. Cutting each piece by hand without a preconceived design is an important factor of this work, revealing the impossibility of creating the same design twice.
Through manipulating multiple layers of paper, I want to celebrate the process of creating, the act of demolishing the work through cutting away, and the ability to conceal parts of the work. I am drawn to creating these cut paper pieces by the need to reconnect in both my life and my art, I find a sense of focus and intimacy in working on these.
